although dwarfed by the 7 giant tall ships, the smaller vessels were also impressive, like this one, which i believe is the topsail ketch argus, originally a baltic sea vessel. |

| the tall ships entered the bay under wind power, sailed under the golden gate, between alcatraz and fisherman's warf, past the bay bridge, then turning around, and returning to the warf under motor power; always accompanied by hundreds of vessels ranging from sailboats, to schooners, to the smaller tall ships, and even the impressive fire tug that sprayed water tens of feet into the air. | |

the 600mm telephoto allowed for interesting views of the crew on the various ships especially the dewaruci who's crew seemed to prefer hanging out in the mast and beams. the final photo is of the japanese kaiwo maru, or "king of the sea" which was the youngest of the ships having been built just 5 years ago. continue with the return to dock and july 5th photos from golden gate and fisherman's warf. |
