we felt that since
the natives already assumed that we, being american, were loud and obnoxious
we should not dissapoint them and so we decided to only explore the
island via a loud and obnoxious machine. we therefore rented a harley
davidson heritage springer special and took it places no harley was
meant to go (and the rental agency was very clear on pointing all this
out when we returned the bike). this is by far the best way to explore
the island.
sitting on the
beach is fine for a few days, but if you are restless, like me, head
out along the coasts and take in the variety the island has to offer.
the northern coast is most interesting. you'll see wildlands, 16th century
buildings and ruins, surfers, sharks, martian like playas, cave networks,
forests of cacti and divi-divis, and most of all, you'll see how the
natives of aruba live.
there is one tourist
attraction, however, that you must try and that is the atlantis, a real
submarine that takes up to 40 people to the depth of 150ft while exploring
the reefs, shipwrecks, and other underwater wonders.
