travelling by
train in poland is somewhat like travelling via a time machine. the
trains are almost invariably from the 50s and 60s, polish, german,
and russian cars, german engines which are mostly electrics, although
diesels are not uncommon.
because poland's
highway system is very limited (most roads, even between major cities
have only one lane in each direction) trains are still an immensly
popular way to trave.

are from our travels between warsaw, pszczyna, and krakow. when i
was growing up in poland, travelling by train was my favourite part
of any of our vacations. it turned out this is still the case...
