mark and the 8"
celestron celestar i brought to look at the unbelievable night sky (a
fried motherboard for the tracking motor prevented any astro photography,
but we did get to see the cassinini division in the rings of saturn,
the red spot on jupiter, the orion nebula, the martian polar caps, etc.
with clarity i've never experienced before)
the four images
below were taken through this scope as john, andrew, todd, and paul
climbed the same dune we climbed in the morning. the telescope acted
essentially as a really bad 2000mm f/10 lens, but provided an interesting
view from 2.5 miles away.
